THOMASTON — Lloyd D. Richards, 97, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, May 23, 2019.

Born in Searsmont, November 23, 1921, he was the son of George and Abbie Richards. He attended school on Moody Mountain in Searsport, before enlisting in the U.S. Army, where he served as a Darby’s Ranger during World War II.

He often spoke of his life while he served in the military and of his younger days on Moody Mountain.

A self-employed carpenter, Lloyd built three homes for himself and his family. He also worked at area seafood plants lumping fish out of boats and transporting bait to other areas on the coast.

With his wife Shirley, Lloyd attended Abundant Grace Fellowship Church in Searsmont.

Other than his parents, Lloyd was pre-deceased by his first wife Eliza; his daughter, Linda L. Richards Dodge; his siblings, Charles, Bernard, Roland, Raymond, Gerald, Kenneth, Marietta, Christina, and Georgianna.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Hooper of Thomaston and her children; his sister, Edith Poulin of Satuma, FL; a cousin, Edna and Tom Vaughn of Stockton Springs, as well as many other cousins, nieces and nephews.
