A memorial service for Mr. George G. Sabine, Jr. will be held at 3:30 PM on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave., SW, Aiken, SC. Mr. Sabine, 88 of Graniteville, SC, died Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Aiken Regional Medical Center. A son of the late George G. and Ida Anderson Sabine, he was born in New Haven CT and had lived in Indiana, Illinois, New Jersey, and Michigan before retiring to Graniteville in 1988. George graduated from East Haven, Connecticut High School and attended the University of Connecticut Veterinary School. He served in the United States Army during WWII in the Third Ranger Battalion, transferred into the 1st Special Service Force, The Forerunners of the Green Berets, Awarded 8 Campaign Ribbons, 2 Invasions, Bronze Star, Presidential Unit Citation, 2 Purple Hearts, Good Conduct Medal and he served in the European Theater. Mr. Sabine was a 50 year member of the Masonic Order, Adelphi-Momauguin Lodge #63 AF&AM. His devotion to his family and friends and his good nature will truly be missed. He was predeceased by his wife of over 50 years, Phyllis Warner Sabine whom he married in 1949, and his sister Doris Sabine Henry. He is survived by his niece, several nephews and their families. Burial will be in Bare Plain Cemetery, North Branford, Connecticut.
