Landed on D-day on the beaches of Normandy, awarded a Bronze Star when he silenced a German machine gun nest. Also awarded two purple hearts. Ranger Sherrill and his wife Anne are the owners of "Ranger Island Marina" the first marina on Lake Norman in North Carolina.

He will be remembered for his sense of humor, respect for others, and his love for his family and his country.
